Family Landmarks
Some of you may remember the gospel oldie in the video above, "Let Us All Go Back," sang by Clara Ward.
This song about "returning to the old landmark" was once a favorite of the assembly. Its lyrics do more than just usher in the spirit of rejoicing. They also remind us of how blessed we are to have gathering places where we can return to worship and grieve as a family.
One such landmark is our family church. There, we can count on having a halleluyah good time worshipping side-by-side with our kinfolk. Our family House of Worship is also where we encourage one another to keep the faith during trying times. We are truly blessed to be one of the few African American families who have a sacred place that reconnects us to our spiritual roots.
Another landmark is our family burial ground. There, we can assemble privately to say final goodbyes to dearly departed loved ones. Not many African American families can say that their children's children can visit their own family cemetery to see the final resting place of their great, great grandmother. We are blessed to be able to say ours can.
Let's support and preserve our ancestral sites so that future generations can all go back to the old family landmarks.
